About
My name is Sandra Van Niekerk. I am a Maths Literacy teacher at Uplands College.
I started teaching Maths Literacy in 2006 when it was implemented to 14 learners. Since than the class has grown to 26. We have been using the Radmaste “Maths Literacy for the classroom” for the grade 10 and 11 year. We are going to use “Focus” published by Macmillan next year for grade 12. I am enjoying the teaching and learning activities for math literacy. It is the first time in a career of more than 25 years that I am teaching learners who actually do not want to do maths. About 19 (70)% are enjoying Maths Literacy while 5 (20%) are indifferent. 2 however are doing it with a grudge. They tell me that people think that they are stupid because they are doing Maths Literacy. This is however not true. These two learners have chosen Maths Literacy because they do not like mathematics
I am also managing an outreach programme for Uplands College sponsored by INVESTEC. I am working with 20 grade 11 and grade12 maths Literacy teachers and 30 GET and FET Maths teachers from Uplands College partner schools in the villages around White River.
How about inserting a photie of you with your class?
